wonderful cabbage soup

Many people know this dish to be one that aids weight lose, but to a cabbage lover like myself this dish is purely delightful.  i got this recipe from the web and decided to alter it just a pinch.  for those who like cabbage try this soup it is delicious and those of you who are completely terrified of cabbage give it a go, if you don't like it you can always use the other half of the cabbage head for some wonderful coleslaw.

warning i don't do measurements very well, i'm one to cook with feelings and spontaneity

cabbage soup

olive oil
1/2 onion chopped
2 cloves of garlic chopped (already minced garlic is great and eliminates the struggle of attempting to chop those cloves so small, i would just add about 2 teaspoons. like more garlic add more and less or none if you don't favor garlic)
8 cups of water
9 chicken bouillon cubes or 4 teaspoons of chicken bouillon
salt to taste
black pepper to taste
1/2 head of cabbage cored and chopped coarsely
1 (14.5 ounce) can of italian stewed tomatoes drained and diced (you can just buy a can of diced italian tomatoes eliminating the dicing part)

first add olive oil to your pot along with the garlic and onions let them cook about five minutes, until soft. i also like to season my veggies add a little salt and pepper.

next stir in the water, bouillon, salt and pepper. bring to a boil.

next add the cabbage.

simmer until the cabbage wilts, this takes around 10 minutes.

finally stir in the drained tomatoes and return to a boil. simmer for 15-30 minutes, stirring often.

i decided to keep a little of the cabbage out and make a small side of this simplistic coleslaw.
all this recipe calls for is cabbage, mayonaise, vinegar, and sugar (all to taste).
this recipe is a nice base in which you can add to (carrots, red cabbage, whatever you desire).

i like to top this soup with crutons, but use whatever soup toppers you prefer.  also if you want more seasoning options add some italian seasoning or crushed red pepper for a nice little kick.

enjoy!!

glorious colors...that steal my art school heart

one of my most absolutely favorite things is color wheels.  perhaps it's the art school child that lives on in my heart.  so here is a small collection of all things inspired by color wheels.  what beauties they are.

this knob is so adorable i wish anthropologie still carried these color swatch knobs, what a perfect greeting they would be as you opened a drawer.
how neat is this little necklace. created by yellow owl workshop and it is packaged in a unique corked tube.
how wonderful is this quilt, simplistic design to a more seasoned quilter but what an impact, those fabrics are brilliant. any one interested in creating one can purchase a bundle of fun colorful fabrics over at pure soho or perhaps you are the more adventurous type; grab the book that inspired this fantastic quilt and recreate your own unique masterpiece.

oh how lovely are these vintage color wheels, these would be more than welcomed into my home. the first one was created by Newton and the second by Harris.
How lovely and vibrant are these little paint swatches, my boyfriend swiped these from a hardware store one night for me while i was gathering some paint swatches for a project.  i just adore the colors, i haven't decided what i'm going to do with them, perhaps i'll gather more and decorate a wall in my bathroom.

so here is my first post, ah! i hope these images add some colorful joy to your day.
and let me know what you like, is there one thing that really puts a smile on your face?!
